Dear
Friends,
As
you read this I will be on my way to
CREDO
began in 1994 – a benefit of the Church Pension Group. Since then over 100
conferences have been held with Priests, Deacons and Bishops from virtually
every diocese in the country participating.
Over the course of the conference,
participants will meet in plenary sessions, small groups and private
consultations with faculty members. There is also ample quiet time to reflect
on personal and professional lives.
Before going, each participant commits to
extensive reflection through pre-conference instruments and surveys that focus
on personal and professional wellness. The work of CREDO is organized around
four major areas – spiritual, vocational, health and financial.
·
Spiritual –
offers a sacred space where each participant can reflect on their interior life
and relationship with God in Christ.
·
Vocational –
provides opportunities for reflection, discernment, and planning in the
professional areas of vocation, career, and work.
·
Health –
encourages reflection on physical and emotional health and well-being,
stewardship of the body, and development of a plan to address the individual’s
health needs.
·
Financial –
explores all aspects of personal financial management and encourages reflection
on God-given resources and how best to use them in response to God’s call.
As
you can see, I will be busy – but in a good way. I am taking a couple of
additional
days to visit my sister in

Healing Prayers
Did you know that anointing
with oil and laying on of hands with prayers for healing are very Episcopalian?
The anointing bring images of Roman Catholic priests
performing “the last rites” for someone who is dying. But in the Episcopal
Church, along with the laying on of hands and prayer, the anointing is the
visible sign of our prayers for healing. The Eucharist service on Wednesday
mornings at 9:30 is a service of healing with anointing and prayers offered for
those in need following the Eucharist. If you are
feeling so led, please join us.

with us for the first time. We are developing plans for a “greeter” desk in the narthex and will be recruiting folks to be greeters at both services on Sunday mornings. We are also planning how to track our communication with newcomers and incorporate them into the congregation.
· Worship – We have made some changes in the season of Pentecost worship booklet for 10am. There is a new version of the Prayers of the People. Over the summer, we
will be exploring new music setting for the service music and other options for enhancing worship.
Everyone is welcome to participate. So if you haven’t gotten involved yet, but see something that interests you, contact the group leader (names are posted on the bulletin board in the Narthex.)

Who We Are:
Our pattern of prayer and
worship is set out in the Book of Common Prayer. Those who gather have in
common a responsibility to participate. Services are not a stage presentation,
there is no audience. The role of priest is meaningless without participation
by the congregation.
Canons I0I:
III.8.4. (candidates for priesthood)
Postulants shall pursue the program of preparation for ordination to the priesthood developed by the Bishop and Commission. The program shall include theological training, practical experience, emotional development and spiritual formation.
111.6.4.c
Subjects for study during this program of preparation shall include:
1) Holy Scriptures
2) Church History, including Ecumenical Movement
3) Christian Theology, including Missionary Theology
4) Christian Ethics and Moral Theology
5) Studies in contemporary society including racial and minority groups.
6) Liturgics and Church Music; Christian worship and music according to the contents
of the Book of Common Prayer, the Hymnal and authorized texts.
7) Theory and practice of ministry.

BOOK REPORT…..By Harry Fox
From the book
case…..The Holy man’s Journey by Susan Trott. This story picks up the journey when
Anna, who has been recognized by the Holy Man as his successor, sets off with
him to visit his former teacher. The journey is used as a learning experience
for Anna and as a spiritual cure for his corrupted mentor.
The story with its wit and wise view point is well worth a read. (ISBN 1-57322-057-4, published by
Riverhead books).

FOUNDING DAY
OF ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS
June 10, 1935
Alcoholics
Anonymous has been instrumental in liberating millions from the slavery of
alcohol. Its success is founded in good
part on a deep spiritual belief in God—by whatever name you wish to give this
Reality beyond yourself. It is also base
on companionship with others who are in the process of, or seeking to begin,
becoming free, and on a confession of faults. Those who have
been thus freed, along with their friends and family, should acknowledge the
inspired creation of this group called AA.

Sunday School
Chuckles:
I was testing the children in my Sunday
school class to see if they understood the concept of getting to heaven.
I asked them, 'If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage
sale and gave all my money to the church, would that get me into
Heaven?' - No the children answered.
'If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the yard, and kept everything
neat and tidy, would that get me into Heaven?'
Again, the answer was, 'NO!' By now I was starting to smile.
Hey, this was fun! 'Well, then, if I was kind to animals and gave
candy to all the children, and loved my husband, would that get
me into Heaven?' I asked them again. Again, they all answered, 'NO!'
I was just bursting with pride for them. 'Well,' I continued, 'then how
can I get into Heaven?' A five-year-old
boy shouted out 'YOU GOTTA BE DEAD.'
